The Pudding Problem

My homemade lunch being slightly unsatisfactory, I decided to take a short stroll down to one of the cafes on campus in search for something sweet.   The cafe didn't hold much promise, but I decided on a little plastic cup of what looked like tapioca pudding.  I paid for my pudding, took it outside, sat under a tree, and dug my spoon in.  Imagine my dismay when I realized that what I thought was tapioca, turned out to be rice pudding.  Yuck!

The incident did leave me with two questions:  First, what kind of college campus sells rice pudding?  And second, what kind of college kid buys it?

In my opinion, rice pudding is for old people.

And honestly, tapioca is just so much easier to dance to.

With a Thump and a Clang

Only 5 more days until Keith gets here.

Just the thought of seeing him makes my heart go zing.

I love old movies.

Raining

Once, near the end of my mission, it had rained for days.
We had zero investigators and, because of the rain,
there was no one on the streets to talk to.

One morning, after not finding any new souls to save,
and it having rained all day,
I decided I had had enough.

On the way back to our apartment for lunch and WPS,
I had a very brilliant, very wet idea.

Why just walk home when you can puddle jump home??

And that's what I did.
I splashed and sloshed in the overflowing gutter for a good 5 minutes
while my companion stared on in shock.

I was soaked above my knees.
I could feel dirt and grit in my shoes.
My skirt was sticking to my legs.
And I was having a great time.

I forgot about our lack of investigators.
I forgot about the soggy skies.
And I forgot to feel sorry for myself.

Lately, the rain has been figurative,
and the forecast is promising more.
But I am ready for some sunshine,
whether or not the sunshine is ready for me.

So, I'm just going to keep on puddle jumping and hope for the best.

5 Things

  1. I attended a cooking class with Megan the other night.  We learned how to make gnocchi.  Now, not only  am I a gnocchi-making fiend, I can finally cross off the first item on my life list for 2012 ("Take some random and ridiculous class").  Nothing is as random as gnocchi.
  2. My dad had the hiccups the other day.  This is significant for 2 reasons.  First, in all my 28 years, I don't think I had ever heard my father hiccup (my mother, who has been married to him for almost 33 years, acknowledge the same fact).  And second, I now know where I inherited my very loud and often uncontrollable hiccuping.
  3. Last night I saw the Hunger Games with my friends Jill and Crystal.  I thought the movie very well done and it was so fun to go with my girls!  I did shed a tear or two when Rue died, but it was much better controlled then the buckets I cried when I read the scene in the book.
  4. Friday night I attended my mission reunion.  I only went because Sister Yang, my second to last mission companion and my trainee from Taiwan, was going to be there and I haven't seen her for 5 years.  It was great to see her and nice to get a hug from President and Sister Nielson, even though I didn't know anyone else there, couldn't find a parking spot within a block of the church, and was falling asleep during the devotional.
  5. As April is National Poetry Month and as I feel like I should show my blog some love, I've decided to sign up for Nablopomo again.  Do you know what that means?  That means that not only do I get to blog every day for the month, I also get to write some poems.  Lucky you.

Wove, Twue Wove

Tonight Keith asked me a question.  "What was the purpose of God including the story of Jacob's marriage to Leah and Rachel in the Bible?" he asked.

My immediate response was, "True Love!"  And I explained:  As Jacob wanted to marry Rachel, he worked for seven years to earn the right to marry her.  But his father-in-law tricked him, and he ended up marrying Leah instead.  But as Jacob LOVED Rachel, he worked another seven years before finally being able to marry her.  Yep, definitely True Love.

When I was finished explaining how true love really does fit into the Bible, I continued by telling Keith that every time I hear the phrase "true love", it makes me think of the movie The Princess Bride.  It is mentioned a few times throughout the movie, but the scene that came to mind was where Miracle Max is commissioned to bring the Man in Black back to life.  When Miracle Max asks the dead Man in Black what he has worth living for, he responds, "True love".  Remember?

As Keith was silent on his end of the phone at this point, I commenced to play out the whole movie scene for him, word for word, line by line.  I used voices, narrated the actions of the actors, and played each part.  It truly was an Emmy earning performance.  At the end of my soliloquy, while I paused for breath, Keith finally broke in with:

"You're weird."

Honey, you have no idea.

Mirror, Mirror Official Trailer

Three reasons why I am excited for this movie:
  1. I love retold fairy tales.
  2. Julia Roberts and Nathan Lane.
  3. Finally, a movie without all the crap that seems to be in all movies these days.

To bad it doesn't come out until next year.

Sometimes I miss the Gilmore Gils.

Because

Because this week has been super long.
Because I spent my Friday night cleaning the bathroom.
Because I am incredibly tired with nothing to blog about.
And because sometimes you just need a little Disney pick-me-up.

Isn't Meg/Hercules/this song the greatest?

Yes.
And that's the gospel truth.

A Hunk or Two of Burning Love

Tonight's Phone Conversation

Me:  "If we were in the same country and could have gone on a date tonight, what would we have done?"

Keith:  "Gone to see Green Lantern."

Me:  "I wouldn't mind seeing that.  Well, actually, I wouldn't mind seeing Ryan Reynolds."

Keith:  "You like us Canadian hunks, eh?"

Oh, yeah!

I Need a Hero--or Just the Man in Black

The best part of today?

The Princess Bride reference on Chuck.

It was awesome.

Now, back to the homework.

Things About Eyes

These are my Eyes:

My left eye has been twitching nonstop for at least 3 weeks.

According to the internet, I am either stressed, sleep deprived, anxious, or fatigued.

I think I am all four.

...Can I be all four?...

***

This is Eye Candy:

The whole show is filled with it--

One cute outlaw after another.

And not only does it make my twitching eye feel better, it's funny too.

Thank You, Netflix!

Psyched Out

I know I'm a little late catching on to this,

but Psych is pretty much awesome.

(And I love how Jennie's kids have the theme song memorized.)

I'm in love with Gus.

Thank you, Netflix, for another TV gem.

Flipped

Have you seen this movie?

I watched it late Friday night
and it stuck with me all weekend long.

While it seemed innocent enough
sitting there in it's Redbox cover,
it was one of those movies that make you think.

And all weekend I was thinking about life and eggs
and people and sycamore trees
and love.

It was amazing.

You should watch it.

Maybe it will make you think, too.

Thursday Thoughts

This morning I got 5 out of 5 on the 7:40  Challenge on the radio.  Yep, I'm pretty much a genius.  I think it helped that one of the questions asked "Which country's flag has a red maple leaf on it?".  If I had gotten that wrong, I never would have heard the end of it.

Remember how I kept dreaming about guavas?  Well, guess what?  The dreams are back.  I think I've dreamed of guavas three times in the last two weeks.  It is starting to get a bit ridiculous because I really want one and in each dream I don't get to eat one or they just don't taste right or are just different than I remember.  And then I wake up and I am sad.   And hungry.

Some days, I really miss Taiwan and my friends there.  Today would be one of those days.

And sometimes, I have HUGE cravings for Taiwanese food.  For example, on Tuesday I was dying for some 酸辣湯麵 (hot and sour soup with noodles).  I think I'll have to give in this weekend and make some chicken curry and some onion pancakes.  And a guava would be nice.

I just about freaked out because my shift keys weren't working.  I then realized I was still in Chinese mode.  Phew!

Thanksgiving is only one week away!!  Did you know that my mom was seriously considering canceling Thanksgiving this year?  When she told me the bad news, I about cried.  When she changed her mind, tears of joy came freely.

Have you seen the billboards along the freeway for the new Narnia movie?  All I can say is WOW!

Is it Friday yet?

Anticipation

Do you remember that rumor I heard a long time ago?
Well, a year and a half later, Jane Eyre is finally here! (almost)

 Yeah, Baby!

I am a little concerned, though:
The trailer makes it look more like a sinister mystery than the
Greatest Love Story Ever Written.

Either way, I'm pretty sure it is going to be awesome!

And yes, Keith will be seeing this with me--by force, if necessary.

Giving it Heart and Soul

Today I was walking around campus and heard a student loudly singing along to their iPod.

In fact, he was dancing, too.

And the song that was inspiring him?

Walk Like a Man.

It totally made my day and reminded me of this:

Happy Tuesday!

Stark and Raving

I've decided that It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
was just one long, long, long, long movie.

Although it had it's funny moments, it was mostly
a car chase through the California desert
and was a bit boring.

For some reason, however,
this movie reminds me of my Grandpa Lambert.
Maybe it's because I watched it at his house once,
or because the 2-tape set always sat on his shelf.
Really, I think it is because my grandpa
was just a little crazy himself.

But then, I might be a bit mad, too:
Ever since I first saw this movie when I was little,
I've always looked for palm trees forming a Big W.

Blown Away

I recently watched Gone with the Wind for the first time.

I can definitely see why it was nominated for 13 Academy Awards (and won 10)--

It was beautiful, and moving, and southern, and epic, and captivating, and heart-wrenching, and stunning,
and it was really, really long.

At least now I'll be able to understand all the GWTW references still found in popular culture.

Like the curtain dress.

Hilarious!

P.S. Be sure to watch Part 2 (that's were the dress comes in).
It's recommended at the end of the video.

P.P.S.  My favorite line of the real GWTW was when Scarlett chose a dress to wear and Mammy replied:

"No you ain't!  You can't show your bosoms until three o'clock!"

Love that Mammy!
