Made Rite

By the time I got to work this morning, my knee-highs looked more like shredded beef than stockings. I somehow managed to put HUGE holes in both socks before I even made it to the bus stop.

Lucky for me, there is a small Rite Aid with gas station prices just across the street from my office. A short walk and 50 cents later, I'm a brand new woman!
Phew!!! It was a close one.

Christmas Matt, I mean, Mass

On Christmas Eve, I attened a Midnight Mass that my brother was singing at. Sitting in the row behind me was one of my high school friends, Matt. I hadn't seen him since highschool and had recently heard that he was still single. Hmm. Usually one to pass up such opportunities, I forced myself to say hi, thinking only of my future.

Me: "Matt! How are you?! Do you remember me?"
Matt: "Um...your face looks familiar...?"
Stranger in the row behind Matt: "Jill Hinckley!! What's up? Long time no see!"

It was another Matt from high school, but a cooler, more awesome-because-he-remembered-me Matt.

Matt no. 1 walked away looking confused.

Moral of the story: Sometimes life is enig-Matt-ic and is full of trivial Matt-ers.

A Christmas Present for Me!

Isn't it wonderful when, after paying tithing, tuition, and buying Christmas, something that you really need but don't have the money for rings up 75% off instead of the 25% you thought?

It's a Miracle.

Merry Christmas!

Not Your Usual Visions of Sugar Plums

Doesn't Ebenezer Scrooge blame his nightly visions on bits of undigested beef? Not to say my pot roast was indigestible, but I have had crazy dreams the last couple of nights. Sunday night's dreams consisted of an abandoned apartment building, a big cat at large, plastic surgery (or magic?), and unsolved mysteries. Last night's was comprised of a blind date, pink diamonds, sorority girls, and a disconnected telephone number. No Ghost of Christmas Past, no Brad Pitt sightings, but definitely interesting.

Accomplishment

Yesterday I successfully made my first pot roast.

It was delicious.

I am now eligible for marriage.

Gluttony

I am now officially a student of Utah State University. I am going to go to school. Again. I am taking 10 credit hours as pre-requisites to begin a Master's program. I am going to have to buy textbooks. And will need to begin reading and studying them. I am going to be an Aggie. My school colors are going to be blue and white.

What was I thinking?!?!?!?!?

I'm a glutton for punishment.

However, don't despair; I am a true Ute. I bleed red. I will never change.

No, Never!!!

What is an "Aggie" anyway? (Don't answer that; I already know the answer.)

Verbal Exchange

Sunday night we had our annual Cookie Exchange.

We normally exchange cookies.

My sister decided to exchange a few choice words.

In reading her "Cajun Night Before Christmas", she read a French exclamation. Aloud.

Of course, if you didn't know French, you wouldn't have know she had sworn.

Too bad I started laughing.

Joyeux Noël!

(That's French for "Merry Christmas!", not some 4-letter word.)

A Christmas Riddle

Q: How long does it take a returned-sister missionary (who may or may not have blonde hair) and her trusty dictionary (which is falling apart at the binding) to write 25+ Christmas cards in Chinese to her peeps in Taiwan?

A: A really, really long time.

Q: And what does said returned missionary get in return?

A: Love, joy, and hand cramps.

聖誕快樂!
Merry Christmas!

(and 加油!)

Dating, Diamonds, and Delicious Diversions

Weekend Recap:

Dating: Saturday night I went on a date. I know, shocker. But before you get too excited let me prefrence it by saying he was a nice guy. Nothing more, nothing less. My cousin set me up and we went out. We went to a dance. We danced every song together. And then on the very last song when you really should dance with your date, he ditched me. Ditched me!! The date had crumbled before then but I thought he would try for a little saving grace. I was wrong.

Diamonds: Chelsea and Dave have made it official. Dave proposed to Chelsea last night, she said yes, and neither of them have stopped grinning since. The wedding is TBA but most likely in April. And the ring! It is gorgeous and huge and shiny and reflects the light very nicely. Yippee!!

Delicious Diversions: I baked two different kinds of cookies the other night. They were for a baptism, but that was just an excuse. Really, I just wanted to make cookies. I was in a baking mood. Using our ol' trusty Cookie Cookbook, I made chocolate orange drops (a personal favorite (how can you go wrong with cream cheese, chocolate chips, and orange zest?)), and molasses ginger cookies (a first try and pretty good, with the perfect amount of Christmas smell). Tasty.

I know, I'm living on the edge... And you thought your life was daring!

My Mistake

Last night I forgot to set my alarm.

And then, when Megan woke me up this morning, I thought she said it was 5:30 instead of 6:30.

I slept 20 minutes longer.

Needless to say, I was late this morning.

But I did feel rested.
